Beyond Net Zero: Carbon Dioxide Removal and Negative Emissions Technologies – Hybrid Session

The 2015 Paris Agreement sought to unite countries in the fight against climate change by devising strategies to keep the global temperature rise to a maximum of 1.5 degrees Celcius. In addition to emissions reductions, reaching Net Zero requires us to actively remove historical emissions of carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere through Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR), also known as Negative Emissions.
This session will unpack CDR through the lenses of the academic, industry, government and non-for profit sectors. The portfolio of options for carbon removals will be discussed, alongside opportunities and risks for Australia within the global context.
